Fundatia ADEPT Transilvania is attending the ILCN Global Congress in Santiago, Chile, between 24 - 26 January, together with another 160 participants from 24 countries. The theme of the congress is "From Communities to Countries: Visionary Conservation in a Changing World”.
ADEPT gave a presentation in the session of the conference called "Working lands conservation: sustaining our farms, forests and ranches”. They described the range of methods they are bringing together in innovative ways to protect the nature-rich, farmed landscapes of Transylvania, and the farming communities living within them, which together are a model of sustainable agriculture for Europe. ADEPT works with government to develop better policy support for these regions; and works with farmers, producers and consumers to develop better marketing, giving a proper commercial value to special production and quality of products from specific areas. This supports biodiversity and local economy at the same time.
ADEPT is partner in the LIFE Preparatory Project call for Establishment of a European Private Land Conservation Network (ELCN). The objective of the project is twofold:
The project will implement and assess innovative private land conservation tools and models, exchange knowledge and experience about these tools, identify legal and political obstacles to up-scaling them, and publicise possibilities for private land conservatio. By doing so, the project will contribute to the development of private land conservation tools and efforts in Europe. Land conservation does not need to depend on taxpayers’ money; it can be funded also by business . This helps to ensure longb term landscape-scale nature protection.
The International Land Conservation Network (ILCN) connects civic and private organizations and people, across boundaries and around the world, to accelerate the protection and strengthen the management of land and natural resources.
In May 2014, ADEPT won top prize for the socio-economic benefits category of the newly-launched Natura 2000 prize from DG Environment. This follows EU top prizes in 2012 and 2013 from DG Agriculture for best communcation with farmers. This shows how ADEPT is crossing policy boundaries, delivering top-quality integrated programmes for the benefit of small-scale farmers in Romania. ADEPT hopes to replicate this successful, innovative model more widely in Europe. ...read more
