On 21 February 2016, at Sighişoara, Fundaţia ADEPT repeated for the 6th consecutive year, its popular annual event dedicated to Family Farmers and Small-scale Producers from the Târnava Mare area, bringing together around 200 local farmers with the specialists who have contributed to the survival and prosperity of their landscapes.
During the event, Fundatia ADEPT presented the ongoing projects and the impact they have on the local communities: Ecosystemic services generated by High Nature Value agriculture, Rural Development and High Nature Value Areas. Invited speakers were: Eugen Vaida, architect, who spoke about the importance of built heritage as a catalyst for rural development, Florentina Calugar presented the Local Development Strategy of the Local Action Group GAL Dealurile Târnavelor and a few examples of projects implemented so far. Caroline Fernolend emphasized on the important interdependence between communities and rural development and Cristina Iliescu made a short description of the eco-tourism destination – Colinele Transilvaniei (Transylvanian Hills).
This year, the Sighisoara Vice Mayor, Mr. Ionel Gavrila, opened the event. Mr Ovidiu Savasca, Director, APIA Targu Mures presented the financing opportunities local farmers can access.
The local producers (Tincuța Cismaș, Irina Cristurean, Daniela Racz, Gerda Gerghiceanu, Judith Oroshegyi) offered to the audience a special moment – traditional products tasting: cheese, Bazna pork ham and sausages, Manglita pork ham, juices, vegetable mix and other delights.
The joy of the event was fulfilled with the presence of the traditional dancing troup „Românașul” who made a demonstration of their art.
The event closed with the raffle in which Fundatia ADEPT Transilvania and their parteners (Hochand România, CRH, Restaurant La Perla Sighisoara, Restaurant Concordia, Agroman) offered to the farmers: different household tools, an excursion to Terra Madre Balcani event, in Albania, part of ESSEDRA project and a visit for 10 farmers to local parteners, as part of the Rural Development and High Nature Value Areas – Romanian – Swiss Cooperation Programme.
In May 2014, ADEPT won top prize for the socio-economic benefits category of the newly-launched Natura 2000 prize from DG Environment. This follows EU top prizes in 2012 and 2013 from DG Agriculture for best communcation with farmers. This shows how ADEPT is crossing policy boundaries, delivering top-quality integrated programmes for the benefit of small-scale farmers in Romania. 9 December 2013, Brussels. For the second year in succession, Fundația ADEPT won a top EU prize for innovative communication with small-scale farmers, with its SMS Family Farms project. The project was developed with communication specialists KAMA System Ltd, and supported by Fundatia Orange and by the Swiss Romanian Cooperation Fund.
