Who we are

Fundația ADEPT, founded in 2004, is a biodiversity conservation and rural development NGO based in Saschiz, Romania. ADEPT has been working for the last 18 years to protect the nature-rich, farmed landscapes of Transylvania and to support the traditional farming communities who have created them over centuries and who maintain them today.

Our aim is to give these landscapes and communities an economic future and relevance in the 21st century without sacrificing their sustainability and productivity. These landscapes are in fact an important model more widely in Europe.

Fundația ADEPT is carrying out an integrated programme linking economic and social benefits with biodiversity conservation, and raising local capacity for good management in the future.

Some of Europe’s most important high nature farmed landscapes are found in Romania, especially Transylvania. They provide high productivity and high local employment, and other important benefits for the wider European public.

Our values

We are a socially oriented organisation, seeking pragmatic solutions to conservation problems that are delivered together with, and wherever possible with direct benefit to, local small scale farming communities.

Living and working in these communities, we strive in all of our activities to respect the ethnic and cultural diversity of the region.

We use good science to design, deliver and adapt projects that are, as much as possible, practical and local in scale.

Our achievements on the ground are how we wish our success to be measured.

We are open to new ideas and ways of working and value innovation and creativity.

We strive to be an inclusive and transparent organisation especially in respect to how we manage ourselves, our relationships with others, the people we employ and the messages we communicate.

Collaboration is central to our approach; we proactively engage with our network, participate fully in local, national and European fora, and almost always, work in partnership with others to deliver our work.

We will continue to demonstrate our passion, dedication and commitment to the region [Tarnava Mare] and to achieving our vision

We strive to maintain the highest level of integrity, meeting all commitments we make, limited only by our available capacities and resources.
