ClimateSmartAdvisors (CSA)

Empowering Europe’s agricultural advisors with the tools and knowledge needed to accelerate the adoption of climate-smart farming practices. Through collaboration and innovation, CSA strengthens the role of advisory services in fostering sustainable, low-carbon farming across Europe.

Funded by: the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme
Project Duration:1st April 2023 – 31st March 2030 (7 years)
Budget: 65.000 Euro

Project Objectives

ClimateSmartAdvisors is a pan-European multi-actor network of 56 partner organisations covering 27 countries. Its aim is to boost the EU agricultural advisory community, leading to an acceleration of the adoption of climate smart (CS) farming practices by the wider farming community within and across EU AKISs. To reach this objective, ClimateSmartAdvisors focuses on the crucial role of advisors in the development and dissemination of CS innovations and practices.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Enhance advisory services by strengthening the capacity of 51 agricultural advisory organizations to provide targeted advice on climate-smart farming.

  • Promotion of sustainable farming practices by accelerating the adoption of practices that reduce carbon emissions, improve resilience to climate change and support biodiversity.

  • Engage the farming community by interacting, directly, with over 10,000 advisors and farmers, providing practical solutions for adapting to climate impacts and mitigating emissions.

EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • Promoting climate-smart practices: CSA aims to accelerate the use of sustainable farming methods that lower carbon emissions, improve resilience to climate change, and protect biodiversity by enhancing the capabilities of advisory services.

  • Training advisors: over 1,360 advisors and 140 coaches will be trained to provide specialized advice on climate adaptation and mitigation, ensuring broader reach and practical support for farmers.

  • Promoting sharing of knowledge: through 260 Communities of Practice, CSA will foster collaboration between farmers, advisors, and researchers to exchange knowledge and solutions.

  • Engaging farmers: CSA will involve over 10,000 advisors and farmers through pilot projects, workshops, and public events to raise awareness and encourage climate-smart practices.

  • Creating educational resources: CSA will create training materials, videos, and a repository of climate-smart farming methods available in 27 languages to reach a wide audience.

  • Reducing the carbon footprint: by promoting sustainable practices, CSA aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance carbon capture in farming systems.
