On 2 June, Prince Charles paid a brief visit to the offices of Fundatia ADEPT in Saschiz. Prince Charles keeps in touch with ADEPT’s work which is close to his own interests – helping small-scale farming communities and high biodiversity farmed landscapes continue to thrive together.
The Prince discussed how farmed areas protected for nature can also bring benefits to the local communities by better links to markets – so that local food, crafts and touristic activities are properly valued, so that local people are properly rewarded as custodians of their unique landscapes and farming systems. Using the market better to support communities in protected landscapes was the subject of the meeting of the European Private Land Conservation Network meeting being hosted just then ADEPT.
Prince Charles was also pleased to hear that the Slow Food movement is working well in Romania. The Prince supported the beginning Slow Food movement in the Târnava Mare area.
Prince Charles also mentioned, in the context of protecting the cultural landscape – communities and built heritage as well as biodiversity – that he would visit Filitelnic and Custelnic villages in Mures County where the ” Ambulance for Monuments” initiative is being started, [under the guidance of architect Eugen Vaida,] under which a rapid response team will be available save monuments under immediate threat.
Prince Charles was presented with a hand-carved wooden spoon, by ADEPT’s Ben Mehedin who carved it, as a souvenir of his visit.
